Yulah Black

March 13, 1924 — December 4, 2016

On December 4, 2016, our angel mother, grandmother, and sister, Yulah Marie Hite Black, passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of her eternal companion. Yulah was born March 13, 1924 in Rich Hill, Missouri to Lee Livingston and Dora Belle (Chandler) Hite. She was the fourth of seven children. Yulah graduated from Eden High School in 1942 and married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Donald Wayne Black, in Twin Falls on May 3, 1944. They were sealed together for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 17, 1965. They were blessed with three boys: Don Jr., David, and Ted.

Yulah was best known for several things; her love of family, her devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ, her passion for Black Oil, her ability to bake delicious sweet treats, and her grace and refined manner. She also had a well-kept secret, a sweet tooth for chocolate candy.

Yulah loved following her boys, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all of their school and athletic adventures. She rarely missed a game, recital, or activity, having a particular love for baseball and basketball. She faithfully kept stats and still has boxes full of notebooks that tracked points scored. She taught most of her great-grandchildren how to play baseball, even running bases in her front yard at the age of 90. She captured all those memories with her camera. She loved her hobby as an amateur photographer and has drawers full of pictures, including photos of every Trick or Treater that visited her home.

She dedicated her life to being a valiant daughter of God and loved sharing the gospel. Even before Yulah was a baptized member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she taught Primary and Sunday School. She was known for sticker charts, BIG candy bars, missionary service in the Chicago Temple, being an ordinance worker in the Boise and Twin Falls temples, and having an uncanny ability to memorize and recite the Articles of Faith and other scriptural references and poems.

Yulah worked beside Donald to make Black Oil a success. She spent countless hours working on the books. She prided herself on accuracy and precision and loved the opportunity she had to teach her family members the business. Bookwork kept her mind sharp, but she always made time to make treats for others. She was a master pie maker and kept the bowl in the fridge full of cookie dough. She often made treats for others, especially for the special sisters that she served through visiting teaching.

Yulah is survived by two sons and their wives, Don (Susan) Black of Twin Falls and Ted (Lana) Black of Eden; nine grandchildren: Toni, David, Steven, Kirk, Scott, Kim, Krista, Amy, and Robert; 27 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Erna Rose Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents, son David, four brothers, and sister, Mary Jane Kelly.

Funeral services, conducted by Bishop Ray Moon, will be held at the Hazelton LDS Church, 531 Middleton Ave, Hazelton, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016 under the direction of Farnsworth Mortuary. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful women from Cenoma House and the special care they extended. Of Yulah it can be said, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.” We love you GG and know you are having a joyous reunion with Papa and our family on the other side. We shall miss you, but are grateful to know that families are forever and that we will see you again.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Yulah's memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com.
