JEROME - Veta Ann Cooper Roseberry was born Dec. 13, 1925, in Mountain Grove, Mo., the daughter of Joseph B Cooper and Bertie Upshaw Cooper. The family moved to Idaho when Veta was 5. She grew up in Richfield on an 80-acre farm with four sisters. They helped in the fields, stacked hay, fed the animals and milked the cows. Veta graduated from high school in Richfield in 1943, lettering in softball and basketball. She loved and continued to play softball even after she married and had her four children. After high school, she attended telegraphy school.
Veta married her high school sweetheart, Bud Roseberry, on June 9, 1945, in Shoshone, Idaho, and they renewed their wedding vows Dec. 15, 2012, in Ketchum, Idaho. Together they raised four children.
They moved to Jerome in 1954. She retired as a bookkeeper for Cal Gas, where she worked for 30 years. Veta was a remarkable seamstress, sewing clothes for her family as they grew up, including western-yoked shirts for Bud, prom dresses and cheerleading outfits for her daughters and their friends. She also was a master quilter and left each member of her family with a quilt too beautiful to use. Mom also made beautiful wagon wheel rugs and was a very crafty lady who could reproduce anything she saw.
Through all the tears and sadness, there is a sense of calmness knowing she is free and at peace with her husband, Bud of 68 years, who preceded her in death in 2013. Veta resided at Hospice House in Jerome for the past 10 months. We thank the extremely competent staff for their kindness and care of our mother.
Veta is survived by her four children: Karen Roseberry of Ketchum, Karla Roseberry Gonzalez (Felix) of Ketchum, Blake Roseberry (Robyn) of Albion, Pa., and Steve Roseberry (Ann) of Middleton, Idaho. She is also survived by five grandchildren: her favorite granddaughter, Jennie Gridley (Greg) of Meridian, Ben and Bud Gonzalez of Ketchum, and Joe and Sam Roseberry of Boise; and three great-grandchildren, Jake, Madison and Ella Jo Gridley of Meridian. Meri Mohler of Eugene, Ore., is her surviving sister. She was preceded in death by the great love of her life, Bud Roseberry; a grandson, David Kosofsky; her parents; three sisters, Zetta Freeman, Vivian Maxey and Roberta Sedey; and one brother, Joe B Cooper Jr.
Veta loved having her family around her, traveling with them and enjoying all the holidays with her children and grandchildren. Her husband and her family were her greatest joy. We love you, Mom, and are happy you are dancing with Dad again.
“If you must bury something, let it be my faults and my weaknesses. Give my sins to the devil. Give my soul to God. If you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Visions, 1770 Park View Drive, Twin Falls, ID 83301.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S. Lincoln in Jerome. Interment will follow in the Richfield Cemetery.
