Vernal Alfred Mix passed away peacefully on December 14, 2017 at his home in Jerome, Idaho at the age of 85. Vernal was born on September 30, 1932, in Rupert, Idaho to Alfred and Leona Phillips Mix. Vernal was the third of five boys.
He was raised and educated in the Paul and Rupert area. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from ISU in 1959. He was employed by Thiokol Chemical Corp. in Promontory, UT from 1959 to 1974. He has farmed east of the Jerome area since 1974.
Vernal married Donna E. Madsen for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 23, 1954. They have 5 children: Debra (Ken) Miller, Jerome, ID; Gregg (Jeanne) Mix, Inkom, ID; Brett Mix, Knoxville, TN; Scott (Sandra) Mix, Fort Bragg, CA; and Crystal (Duane) Rubink, Jerome, ID.
Vernal was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many church positions and in his retirement years served with his wife on a mission in Accra, Ghana and later a Family History mission in SLC, UT. He also served in the Twin Falls Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years and their five children; 21 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, December 22, 2017 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 South Lincoln, Jerome. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Jerome Stake Center, 26 N 100 East Jerome with a viewing 1 hour prior to funeral. He will be laid to rest in the MAR cemetery Rupert, ID.
