Jerome - Verna Joy Scarrow, 77, of Jerome, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday May 21, 2015. She was born July 11, 1937, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the daughter of Solon Grady Short and Cecilia Jane Thorne Short. Joy was raised in New Mexico and settled in Southern Idaho where she met Gerald Scarrow. They were married April 18, 1956, in Buhl, Idaho. They made their home in Jerome where they raised five children. Joy loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her life was centered around her family. She worked at home, in the potato harvest, in the schools, at Scarrow's Lumber, the Rock Shop and a host of other places. She was talented at crochet and made over 200 blankets and hats for children. Joy was a believer and worshipped at Freewill Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be sorely missed.
Joy is survived by her sweetheart of over 60 years, Gerald Scarrow; their children, Pamela Scarrow, Bob (Terrie Anne) Scarrow, Lora Jane (Bryan) Mason, Sheila (John) Coverdale, and Rocky (Kelley) Scarrow; 24 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Annabelle, Betty Mae and Charlotte; and many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM , Thursday May 28, 2015, at Life Church of the Magic Valley, 25 East Nez Perce (100 South), Jerome, with Pastor Gene Kissinger presiding. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
