Steven Thomas Knott of Hagerman, Idaho passed away December 5, 2023 in Twin Falls, Idaho surrounded by his family. Steve was born in Elsinore, California on March 12, 1941 to Eldon and Vera Knott. He was raised in Fallbrook, California.
In the summer of 1962, Steve decided to make a life-altering trip to Hagerman, Idaho with a friend. This trip is where he would meet a cute, young girl, Nancy Mavencamp. Steve returned to California for a short amount of time, until he realized he left the love of his life in Idaho. After a short courtship they wed in the fall of 1963.
After their marriage, Steve and Nancy went to live in California for a brief period. They returned to Idaho where he received his draft card. Steve chose to enlist in the Signal Corp to repair mortar tracking radars instead of having the Army choose his training for the Vietnam War.
Following basic training, Nancy joined Steve at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Steve graduated first in his class and was given the choice to be stationed in Hawaii or Germany. Steve chose Germany, so of course the Army sent him to Hawaii in 1966.
In February of 1968, Steve and Nancy were blessed with their first son, John. After finishing his four years of duty in the service, they returned to Hagerman, Idaho to be closer to family. Steve went to work at Cain’s as a small appliance and television repairman. Steve and Nancy remained in the Magic Valley before purchasing their forever home in Hagerman, in the fall of 1983. During this time, they were blessed with two more sons, Thomas in December of 1970 and Steven in June of 1979. This rounded out their happy family.
Unfortunately, during this time Steve started to develop health issues that would later be diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis. This would change the trajectory of their family life. Steve would soon be unable to work due to the severity of his illness. Steve was also diagnosed with several other health issues including Leukemia, but this never discouraged his optimistic attitude toward life. Steve was known for always having a smile on his face. His response to “How are you doing?” was “I can’t complain”. Steve always put other people’s happiness before his, no matter how much pain he was in.
Steve is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Knott; his three sons, John (Shawnna) of Hagerman; Thomas (Stephanie) of Jerome; and Steven (Sue) of North Carolina; nine grandchildren: Jared, Nicole (Nick Wallace), Monica (Brandon Moore), Jessica (Paul), Faith (Aaron), Aspen (Trinity), Sunny, Sophie, and Sadie; six great grandchildren: Jeremy, Paul, Lincoln, Raiden, Aliyya, and Finn; two sisters, Mary and Carol; and one brother, John.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Vera Knott; and one sister, Laurel.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at the American Legion Hall, 281 N. State Street, Hagerman, ID 83332. Interment will be at a later date. Following the service there will be a luncheon.
For family and friends unable to attend Steve’s service, Farnsworth Mortuary will live stream his service on their Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hagerman Alumni Association.
