Robert William Walker

Robert William Walker, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, in Wendell, Idaho. Born on December 16, 1948, in Vernal, Utah, to Franklin Richardson and Helen Henderson Walker, Robert was the sixth of eight children, growing up alongside his twin brother, Richard, and their loving siblings, Gerald, Reese, Elaine, Patricia, and Rosemary. Later, their family welcomed his younger brother, Charles.

Raised on a small farm in Vernal, Robert's early life was filled with adventure and the lessons of hard work. These values became the cornerstone of his character, shaping him into the dedicated, hardworking man everyone knew and loved.

Robert had a passion for sports, particularly basketball. One of his fondest memories was winning the Utah State Championship with his high school team during his senior year—a highlight that he cherished throughout his life.

After a year at Ricks College, Robert embarked on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ireland, a transformative experience that deepened his faith and commitment to serving others. Upon returning, he continued his education and work, eventually joining the Army with plans to serve as a medic. Although health issues led to an honorable discharge, Robert's journey was far from over. He lived in Idaho, Utah, and Colorado, taking on various roles, from working on a ranch to driving tankers and installing insulation.

In 1981, Robert moved to Ely, Nevada, where he met the love of his life, Connie, and welcomed his daughter, Angela, into his heart.

With over 40 years in the construction industry, Robert's expertise was unmatched. He earned both his General Contractor and Electrical Contractor Licenses, becoming a respected figure in his field. But beyond his professional achievements, Robert was known for his unwavering dedication to his community. He served tirelessly in many church callings and had a particular passion for mentoring young men in the Boy Scouts of America program. Under his guidance, seven of the ten boys he mentored earned their Eagle Scout Award—a testament to his influence and commitment.

Robert's service didn't stop there. He and Connie dedicated seven years to a service mission, helping others through the Addiction Recovery Program of their church, touching countless lives along the way.

Robert is now reunited with his brother and sister-in-law, Reese and Karol Walker; his sister, Elaine Ashworth; and brother-in-law, Gary Christiansen, who preceded him in death. His legacy lives on through his loving wife of 42 years, Connie; his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Angela and John White; and his adored granddaughter, Addison White. He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald (Christie) Walker; Richard (Eva) Walker; and Charles (Laraine) Walker; his sisters, Patricia (Jay) Snelgrove and Rosemary Christiansen; and his brother-in-law, Michael Ashworth.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 am, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 17, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint Stake Center in Wendell, Idaho, 605 North Idaho Street, Wendell. He will be laid to rest at the Wendell Cemetery.
