STAR

Robert Scott Keeney, known to all as simply “Scott,” lived a life full of creativity, adventure, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved. Born on January 6, 1952, in Denver, Colorado, to Charles Donald Keeney and Marian Joyce Keeney, Scott had a deep appreciation for beauty—whether in nature, art, or the perfect, one-of-a-kind find.

A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara (Class of 1974, Bachelor of Arts), Scott was an artist in every sense of the word. He found joy in painting, photography, and transforming any space into something beautiful. With a keen eye for detail, he saw beauty in the smallest things, whether it was an ocean view or the vastness of a breathtaking field or mountain.

Scott’s greatest masterpiece, however, was his family. He was a devoted father to Allegra Dakota Keeney (born March 16, 1987) and Jake Asher Keeney (born February 23, 1991), raising them in San Diego, California. In 2000, he met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Oclassen, and in marrying her on March 30, 2002, he took on what might have been his most ambitious project yet—blending a family of five teenagers under one roof (a feat worthy of a lifetime achievement award). Together, they finished raising their children in San Diego, navigating family life with love, humor, and perhaps the occasional deep breath.

Scott was a devoted husband, a loving father, and later, a proud and doting grandfather to his ever-growing family of eight grandchildren. Being Grandpa/Papa was the role he cherished most, and he embraced it wholeheartedly. His grandchildren—MacKenzie, Max, Kayla, Hayden, Leighton, Landon, Cru, and Bodhi—were his greatest joy, and he had a special way of making each of them feel uniquely loved.

Scott had a gift for making life feel special for everyone around him. He was an adventurer, a deep thinker who could get lost in conversation or his own thoughts, and he appreciated both the big moments and the simple ones equally.

Scott traveled all over the world, but the Hawaiian Islands always had his heart. He and Barb retired there, enjoying the ocean and the natural beauty he cherished. Even after his terminal diagnosis, he remained true to himself—thoughtful, generous, and always putting others first. He never met a stranger and never missed an opportunity to show up.

Scott spent his last six months in Star, Idaho, and passed peacefully at the family home in Boise on March 11, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Keeney; his children, Allegra (Andrew) Frost and Jake Keeney; his bonus children, Scott (Maggie) Robinson, Kelly (Mark) Ridley, and Tommy (Rachel) Robinson; his beloved grandchildren; his sisters, Janice (Andy) Rice and Debra (Mike) Gonzales; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; as well as his beloved dog, Sadie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Scott in the best way possible: by creating something beautiful, embarking on a new adventure, or simply making someone feel special—just as he always did.
