Ricky “Rick” Allen Copeland born November 21, 1985 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Robert Copeland and the late Debbi Lubbering (Copeland). Rick passed away unexpectedly November 16, 2016 in Jerome, Idaho.
“It’s a cowboy code, it’s an unwrote law. When you mess with one you gotta take us all.”
This verse comes to mind when I think of Rick. If you knew him well enough, you knew you were more than just a friend, you were family. There was never a phone call ended without an “I love you”, a cross in paths without a hug or a very firm hand shake. Rick made family everywhere he went. He would do anything for anyone and never was afraid to show his emotions to others. Even as a young child, Rick took care of others. From paintball wounds to BMX racing road rashes.
Rick grew up in Apple Valley, California where he had his first real love- BMX racing!! Weekend races and many holes in our backyard. We never had grass, a garden or even a swing set. We had holes! To Rick they were jumps and that was where he was going to become a pro.
Rick had a passion for fishing, family get-togethers and always a good laugh. But not just any laugh, it was more of a giggle that you could recognize from across the room. His eyes got smaller, his nostrils got bigger, his cheeks became big and rosy and he would giggle.
He grew up a typical boy who played in the dirt, a typical teenage that got in trouble and then he grew in to a Dad. Although Rick may have only had 30 short years here, Rick accomplished 3 amazing things: Christian, Rikki and Ryder. You could tell he was proud that they chose him as their father. It was always my son, my boys, my daughter and my kids.
Rick was a protector to everyone that he encountered and sometimes he was even known as the “one hitter quitter”. But at the end of the day Rick was always a lover not a fighter.
Although he was gullible and you could talk him in to almost anything, it always turned into a good time. Spontaneous BBQ’s, random fishing trips or bon fires in the desert, Rick would be there.
He will be greatly missed by his 3 children, Christian, Rikki, and Ryder; and the love of his life, Lynette. He is also survived by his father, Robert Copeland, brothers Robbie, Timothy, Dustin and Zachary; his sister, Jayme; his grandparents, and his many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his Mom, Debbi; grandmother; and many friends.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
We will miss you greatly and look forward to the time we can meet again. Enjoy fishing in Heaven!
