Richard Leslie McConnel

Richard Leslie “Dick” McConnel of Jerome, Idaho, previously of Aberdeen, Idaho and Milton-Freewater, Oregon passed away January 8, 2024 following complications of a stroke in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the 4^th child born on November 11, 1938, to Harold and Ella McConnel in Milton, Oregon.

Dick graduated from McLoughin Union High School in 1957. He was certified as a diesel mechanic at Oregon Technical Institute, and he spent 8 years in the Army National Guard.

Dick married Marleen Leinbach on November 27, 1959. They had three children, Pam, Chuck, and Bob. They were later divorced. He then married his eternal companion, Donna Nungesser, on April 30, 1977. They also had three children, Amy, Melissa, and David. Their marriage was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 30, 1981.

Dad loved anything outdoors; fishing, hunting or just driving around aimlessly. He spent more than 20 years in the woods logging. His other favorite hobby included telling stories about his cars, guns, his family or his LDS mission to Ireland & Scotland to anyone who would listen.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his son, Chuck. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; children, Pam Wildman of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; Bob McConnel of Boise, Idaho; Amy Johns of Jerome, Idaho; Melissa Linford of Kearns, Utah; and David McConnel of Chubbuck, Idaho; as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, with a viewing beginning at 9:00 am, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 325 East Avenue B, Jerome, Idaho.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at the Aberdeen Cemetery, Aberdeen, Idaho.
