Jerome- Ray Douglas Salser, 93, of Jerome, passed away Sunday September 7, 2014, in Twin Falls. He was born January 16, 1921, in Duchess, Alberta, Canada, the son of James Camile Salser and Ida Fern Towne Salser. As a teenager, Ray moved to Oregon where he was raised. He became a US citizen and served his country in the United States Navy. Following an Honorable Discharge, he went to work in the telecommunications industry.
While working on a job in Jerome, he met Grace Burgoyne. They were married July 22, 1949, and settled in Jerome, where they raised two sons.
Ray worked at Mt. Bell and retired after 36 years of service. His retirement included several years repairing phones, installing life-lines and consulting for the phone company. Ray enjoyed camping and was an avid fisherman. Summer vacations were spent on the Oregon coast, deep-sea fishing.
Ray never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
He is survived by his sons, Rick Salser of Pocatello, and Ron (Jan) Salser of Jerome. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Grace.
Graveside memorial services with military honors, will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Monday September 15, 2014 , at the Jerome Cemetery, 901 West I Street, Jerome. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
