Phyllis Kay (Walz) Sheppeard of Jerome passed away December 5, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital, Twin Falls, Idaho. She was born February 22, 1947, in Wendell, Idaho, to Irvin and Elizabeth (Winterholler) Walz. Phyllis was raised in Jerome and graduated from Jerome High School in 1965.
She married Wayne Sheppeard, February 26, 1970. Their daughter, Tanya, was born in 1972 and their son, Chad, was born in 1976. She and her husband owned and operated Sheppeard's Drive-In in Jerome for nearly 30 years. Phyllis loved life and was usually the "life of the party". Others often described her as "spunky and feisty". She was a good listener with lots of patience and a tender heart, always putting others first.
Phyllis loved the out of doors, whether working in her yard, camping and 4-wheeling, or just taking a "nature walk" with a stop at the "favorite log" for a heart-to-heart talk. Family was always a priority with Phyllis. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her, and she dedicated herself to supporting and encouraging them through the many passions and challenges in their lives. She had a ready sense of humor and one piece of advice she passed on to them was: "drinking coffee will make you short". She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Elizabeth Walz; her grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wayne; two sisters, Anita and Paulette Walz of Jerome; daughter, Tanya Claar of Twin Falls. Son, Chad (Christy) Sheppeard of Jerome; six grandchildren: Brayden, Brandon and Alexandria Claar, Hazelton, Riley, Skylar and Ember Sheppeard of Jerome; step grandchild, Madison McCreery of Twin Falls; and one great grandchild, Jameson Claar of Hazelton.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Jerome Cemetery, Jerome, Idaho, with Pastor Jeff Glenn officiating.
