JEROME • Phyllis A. Barnes, 82, of Jerome, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at her home.
She was born May 1, 1932, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Eila Mae Duffin and Ralph Tulloch. At age 3, she moved to Jerome where she was raised by Eila Mae and Vern “Heavy” Buckles. Phyllis graduated from Jerome High School in 1949 and then spent one year in the nursing program at Idaho State University. She married Sonnich Sonnichsen and they had two children, Patty and Bob. Phyllis spent most of her working years at the Style Shop in Jerome. She loved horses and was a charter member of the Thursday Sage Riders riding club. Phyllis also enjoyed gardening and canning, and she kept an immaculate home. On March 4, 2002, she married Bill Barnes.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bill Barnes of Jerome; her children, Patty (Taylor) Brown of Kimberly and Bob (Kelly) Sonnichsen of Boise; five grandchildren, Levi, Lindsay, Matthew, Amanda and Elizabeth; six great-grandchildren; Bill’s children, Mark (Ronda) Barnes of Pullman, Wash., and Pixie (Larry) Collins of Jerome; and many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; and infant sister, Virginia Buckles.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the First Baptist Church, 308 First Ave. E. in Jerome.
Phyllis’s family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in her name to Hospice Visions, 1770 Park View Drive, Twin Falls, ID 83301.
