JEROME - Peter John Arrossa Jr., 70, a resident of Jerome, Idaho, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at his home.
Pete was born to Peter and Rosie Arrossa on Jan. 16, 1945, in Wendell, Idaho. He was the oldest of three children. He grew up on a family dairy and sheep farm north of Shoshone, where he worked long hours with his brother, George, and sister, Gina, caring for cattle and sheep.
Pete attended Shoshone High School, where he was a star athlete holding school records in both basketball and football. He graduated in 1963 and attended Idaho State University. Upon returning home to Shoshone, he began working for the BLM on the Fire Crew. During this time, he also worked for Lieutenant Governor, Jack Murphy on his cattle ranch, where Pete developed his cowboy skills and a passion for horses. Pete’s career with the Bureau of Land Management, spanned for more than 40 years. During this time, Pete worked with many amazing lifelong friends.
Pete married Linda Cummins on Oct. 30, 1971, and had two children, Monty and Jamie. Pete and Linda raised their family in North Shoshone on a small horse farm. Pete was an outstanding Chariot Racer, Quarter Horse trainer and team roper. Pete was proud of his children. He enjoyed watching Jamie compete in high school sports. Upon retirement from the BLM, Pete loved traveling the Northwest with Monty racing horses at various tracks and was always the first in the winner’s circle. He was also passionate about big game hunting and cherished the times he spent hunting with his brother, George; close friend, Ron Conklin; and son-in-law, Zach Shetler.
Pete was especially proud of the success of his grandkids, Alex and Madison, as they excelled in numerous activities. He was also proud of his Basque heritage and was a member at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Jerome, Idaho.
Pete is survived by his siblings, Gina (Doug) Pendleton of Pocatello, Idaho, and George (Molly) Arrossa of Kimberly, Idaho; his children, Monty Arrossa of Jerome, Idaho, and Jamie (Zach) Shetler of Jerome, Idaho; his grandchildren, Alex and Madison Shetler; his nephews, John (Lisa) Pendleton of Fort Collins, Colo., and Rich (Mary) Arrossa of Boise, Idaho; and nieces, Lisa (Curtis) Miller of Hailey, Idaho, and Tracy (Mark) Pettinger of Blackfoot, Idaho. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Rosie Arrossa.
A vigil service and recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 216 Second Ave. E. in Jerome. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, also at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with Father Rob Irwin presiding.

Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary in Jerome, Idaho.
