Oscar Campos Cortez

Jerome- Oscar Alejandro Campos Cortez, age 22, passed away in his sleep in Oceanside, California on Saturday, April 18, 2015.

Oscar was born February 3, 1993 at St. Benedict's Hospital in Jerome, Idaho, the son of Abel Campos and Marisol Campos (Cortez), who reside in Jerome, Idaho. He graduated from Jerome High School in 2011 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps the following September. He married his best friend and love of his life, Arika Taylor of Jerome, Idaho on February 14, 2014 and intended to join her in Pocatello, Idaho in December 2015.

While growing up, Oscar loved to play soccer, do jiu-jitsu, shoot his BB gun in the back yard, go sledding, snowboard, and torment and protect his little sisters. Music was a huge part of his life. He taught himself how to play the guitar and would sing along to his favorite songs whether he knew the words or not. He also would get in as much trouble as possible, and follow with a puppy dog face and big hazel eyes to get him back out.

While stationed in California, Oscar enjoyed spending his time on the beach. He loved to watch the waves roll and listen to them crash into the shore. He loved to surf, swim, and lay in the sun while he listened to the music which was such a huge part of his life. He would come home to Idaho whenever he could to spend time with his family, especially his little brother Eli, age 3. Oscar was always surrounded by his friends and fellow Marines. He never failed to put a smile on someone’s face and could crack a joke at the most awkward of times.

Oscar is survived by his wife, Arika Taylor-Campos; his parents, Abel and Marisol Campos; his siblings, Elizabet, Alexza, and Eli Campos; along with his closest friends and fellow Marines, Samuel Virgil and Oscar Gutierrez (Sgt. Kitty Boo).

A visitation with Rosary and Vigil, will be held from 6 - 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2015 , at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 216 2nd Avenue East, Jerome.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. , Wednesday, April 29, 2015 , also at St Jerome Catholic Church.  A luncheon will follow in the parish hall immediately after the service. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
