Oralee Peterson, 88, of Jerome, passed away January 17, 2017 at St Luke’s Hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Oralee was born to Irene and Roy Moore on April 29, 1928 in Fruita, Colorado. She was the second child of three and the only girl. Her family moved to Jerome in 1945 while she remained in Fruita to graduate from Fruita Union High School in 1946. She then joined her family in Jerome. She worked as a sales clerk at King's in Jerome. She met the love of her life, Fred "Bud" Peterson and they were married in June of 1948 and had two children, Becky and Larry, whom she was so proud of.
Almost her entire life was spent on the 80 acre farm that she and Bud farmed south of Jerome. You could find her in the field driving the tractor or working in her garden. Oralee maintained her own flower garden that was the envy of all her friends! She took great pride in it and it was amazing!!! Oralee moved to town in 2010 after Bud’s passing.
Oralee was such a social person and she never met a stranger!!! She was an active member of the Jerome Recreation “Over 65 and Fit” class for over 25 years; a proud democrat; a member of the First Baptist Church of Jerome; one of the last remaining Baptiweds; and one of the last remaining members of her pinochle club. She and Bud did their fair share of square dancing in their younger years in costumes that Oralee made herself. She was also a member of the Canyonside Women’s Club. She helped with White Cross for many many years and everyone will remember her for her love of the color PURPLE!!!
Oralee was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents, and a son-in-law.
Oralee is survived by daughter, Becky (Mike) Showalter; granddaughter, Samara Arthur and her children Avery and Joelle; granddaughter, Mollie (Paul) Comer and their children, Allison and Olivia; son, Larry (Diana) Peterson; granddaughter, Aubrey (Bobby) Anderson and their children, Cooper and Griffin; grandson, Jordan (Claire) Peterson; her brothers, Glen (Marilyn) Moore and Dale (Kathy) Moore; and many more extended family members.
Memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 302 1 st Avenue E, Jerome, on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations in Oralee’s name may be made to First Baptist Church.
