Jerome- MaryAnn Slemp, 80, of Jerome, died Thursday October 2, 2014, at Lincoln County care center in Shoshone. She was born September 5, 1934, in Salida, Colorado, the ninth of 14 children born to Juan and Rufina Quintana.
In March of 1968, she married the love of her life, James E. Slemp. To this union was born two daughters. MaryAnn attended nursing school and became an LPN and worked for many years at St. Benedicts Hospital in Jerome. She also worked as an X-ray technician. She was a devoted member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and loved attending Mass each Sunday and all of the other church activities. She also enjoyed playing the penny slots in Jackpot. MaryAnn's greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her four grandsons, her extended family, who affectionately called her "Aunt Toots," and her friends.
MaryAnn is survived by her two daughters, Annella (David) Michaels and Susan Slemp, all of Salinas, California; her four grandsons, Nathan Hunter, Tyler James, Alexander James and Evan Dean; two sisters, Yolanda Dyap and Elizabeth (William) Clifford. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and six brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Monday October 6, 2014, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 216 2nd Avenue East, Jerome, with Fr. Robert Irwin presiding. Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
