Mary Fiet

Wendell- Mary Elaine Fiet, 88, passed from this world on Monday August 8, 2016, at her home with two of her daughters by her side.

She was born July 28, 1928, in Nampa, Idaho, the second of seven children born to Harvard D. and Mary Myers Hanks.  They lived in Nampa where Elaine attended school.  After graduating in 1946, she met her lifelong sweetheart, Floyd A Fiet, and they were married August 19, 1946, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple (69 years ago). During the homestead lotteries of the 1950's, Floyd drew a farm north of Rupert, Idaho.  The hardships and joys of these pioneers fostered a kinship that endures today.  She went with him to Hazelton, King Hill and to Wendell where she lived until her passing.

Elaine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the capacity of Stake  Relief Society  President, board member, Ward Relief Society teacher (several times) and has always served as a Visiting Teacher. She also served in the Primary Presidency and has taught many Primary classes.

Elaine loved to sing. She sang with several different quartets and was a member of the "Singing Mothers" group in her Stake. She had a low melodious singing voice and was requested to either sing or narrate for many programs. She also enjoyed her kitties and her birds. She enjoyed living on the farm, especially in Rupert, where she could hear the yapping of the coyotes and the little frog "peepers". She loved her flower gardens. She also loved being around people and was known to always be there to  help anyone in need.

Elaine is survived by her son, Clair (Leslie) Fiet of Bountiful, UT;  three daughters, Leslie (Gayden) Nelson of North Logan, UT, Shirley (Rocky) Metts of Kimberly, ID, and Jenness Fiet of Wendell, ID;  13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one new great-great-granddaughter.  She is also survived by her sister, Lecia Dawn DeCoursey, and her brothers, H. Douglas (Geneva) Hanks, and David (Marjean) Hanks. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Floyd A Fiet, her parents, Harvard D and Mary Hanks, two sons, Dennis and Layne Fiet, one brother, Delbert Hanks, and two sisters, Phyllis Garner and Jeanene Flake.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome, Idaho from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday at 9:00 am . at the Church prior to the services. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 am Monday, Aug 15, 2016 in the Wendell LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 605 North Idaho Street, Wendell, Idaho with Bishop Don Egbert officiating.  Interment will follow at the Kohler Lawn Cemetery in Nampa, Idaho at approximately 3:00 pm.
