Marjorie Leilani DuBois

May 25, 1924 — January 6, 2025

TWIN FALLS

Marjorie Leilani Hodgson DuBois was born May 25, 1924, to Ralph Edward and Lois Ada Hodgson, in Honolulu, Hawaii. On June 15, 1941 she married Howard Irving DuBois in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were blessed with two sons, Howard Irving DuBois III and Ralph Duane DuBois. Throughout the boys’ childhood, Marge was very active in their organizations and activities. She held many offices in the Little League and Babe Ruth Organizations in Sacramento, California.

Most of her working career was spent in governmental service. During the Korean conflict, she worked for the Sacramento Signal Depot. She then went to the Sacramento County Assessor, where she worked for 13 years, until the family moved onto a farm northeast of Jerome, Idaho. This was a very enjoyable time for her, having been a “city slicker” all her life. They joined the Jerome Grange, and Marge held several offices in that organization. She worked briefly for the State Department of Health and Welfare, and then back to the Assessor’s office. After leaving the Assessor’s office, she became the executive secretary for the American Falls Reservoir District and was on the board during the building of the replacement dam. She considered that one of the highlights of her life. She was elected to the position of Jerome County Assessor and held that position until she retired around 1980.

After retirement, she and Howard did quite a bit of traveling and spent their winters in Southern California, until his death in 1995. They were married for a beautiful 54 years. After her retirement, Marge had taken up quilting, which she dearly loved. She made many blankets for grandchildren and loved ones over the years; many of which are still cherished today. She was a charter member and first treasurer of the Desert Sage Quilters Guild and devoted member of Sage Hens of Jerome. Marge felt that if you belonged to an organization, you should work for it. She held many offices in many organizations in the Magic Valley, The Jerome County Republican Central Committee, the Jerome Business and Professional Women, Daughters of the Nile, and the Jerome Civic Club. She was a member of the St. Benedicts Auxiliary Hospital Guild. She served on the Jerome Urban Renewal Agency as one of its first members and held the offices of Secretary and Vice Chairman. She was Vice Chairman of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Animal Control. She helped form the Jerome Pet Pals and worked tirelessly for many years there, until she chose to resign in her mid-nineties.

There have always been pets in the DuBois household, and Marge was a self-described “bleeding heart” as far as her love and compassion for animals. She had been a long-time member of the ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States, and the Center for Marine Conservation. She has been a nature lover and environmentalist, supporting for many years The National Wildlife Federation, The Environmental Defense Fund, The Nature Conservancy, The Audubon Society, and many other over the years. She loved to garden and spent many happy hours in her yard, becoming a Master Gardener. Her flower garden always looked so beautiful and pristine just like her. Marge had always been a perfect picture of health and beauty, having her hair and makeup in place at all times. Always a proper lady.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters, a daughter-in-law, and her youngest son, Ralph. She is survived by her eldest son, Howard (Diana) of Gooding; daughter-in-law, Kerin of Buhl; six grandchildren, Ryan, Gavin, Nicole, Brandon, Darci and Dustin DuBois; great granddaughters, Gabriella Henman, Ella Sears, Jocelyn Sears, Cecilia Pineda, Lily Pineda, and Olivia DuBois; and great grandsons, Sage Henman and Lochlan Sears.

Marjorie DuBois passed away at the Evergreen Place Assisted Living in Buhl, at the fabulous age of 100. On January 20, 2025 she was laid to rest in her chosen, beautiful blue and silver casket, at Sunset Cemetery, Twin Falls. After 30 years of longing, she is now resting beside her sweetheart.
