Marie Cornelia Schelling Van Dyk passed in her sleep on Monday, March 7, 2022 in Jerome, Idaho. She was born to Henry and Josena Schelling on August 8, 1933 in Sioux Center, Iowa. In 1942, Marie’s family moved to California. There she met and married Richard “Pete” Van Dyk in 1951. Together they started a dairy in 1963 in Artesia, California and continued dairying in Chino and Ontario, California before moving to Jerome, Idaho in 1971 to start a dairy there.
Marie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jerome, Idaho and was active in the Tuesday morning Bible study. She loved all aspects of homemaking, especially sewing and spending time with her family and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; and her son, Hank. She is survived by her children, Jennie (Chris) Gibson of Hagerman, Idaho; Joni Van Dyk of Wickenburg, Arizona; Richard (Tammy) Van Dyk of Jerome, Idaho; Jana (John) Van Vliet of Twin Falls, Idaho; her brothers, Kenneth Schelling of Hagerman, Idaho; Adrian Schelling of Twin Falls, Idaho; her sister Joanne Bethke of Jerome, Idaho; and her 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome. A Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Twin Falls Reformed Church, 1631 Grandview Dr N, Twin Falls, Idaho. Graveside service will conclude at Jerome Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the charities that were important to Marie and supported by her: Operation Mobilization (www.omusa.org) and their work in Moldova focuses on outreach and church planting in the least-reached regions of Moldova; or the Christian Veterinary Mission (www.cvm.org) and their work in Mongolia to equip veterinary students and professionals to serve others in the name of Christ by using their veterinary skills.
