Lonnie Ambrose, 82, of Jerome, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, in his home of 51 years surrounded by family and friends, shortly after the town’s noon siren sounded...as if to call him home.
Lonnie was born in Wendell, Idaho, on September 21, 1942, the second child of Arthur Barton Ambrose and Fleeta Estelle (Spencer) Ambrose. Lonnie attended Jerome High School where he met his sweetheart, Marcy Newman. The two were married in 1963, and later their union was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Lonnie was an excellent athlete, and he loved church softball, dabbled in boxing, and was skillful in bowling. However, Lonnie was most known for being a remarkable sportsman, excelling in both hunting and fishing. He operated Ram Sports Center, a modest sporting goods store on Jerome Main St. Many amazing tales of sportsmanship were shared by the outdoorsmen who gathered there, some of them were even true. After leaving Ram, Lonnie worked for Simerly's Sporting Goods in Wendell until he retired in 2020.
Lonnie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took the admonition to "Love thy neighbor" to heart. He shared his fish and wild game with many, and was known for continuously helping neighbors and running a plate or two across the street.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita (Reece); and an infant brother, Timmy.
He is survived by Marcy, his wife of 61 years; his children, Rick (Cathy), Marni, Kara Florinca (Dan), Megan Moore (Greg); and his five grandchildren, Khayman Stauffer, Calvin Ambrose, Kaylee (Burr), Fiona Ambrose, and Wyatt Moore.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to St. Luke’s Hospice for their exceptional care, as well as the many friends and relatives who visited to share memories and say goodbye. They are also grateful to all who helped Lonnie part with his extensive collection of fishing poles, lures, arms, and whatnot.
To honor Lonnie’s remarkable life, a viewing will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S. Lincoln Ave, Jerome. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am, Friday, December 6, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jerome Stake Center, 26 N Tiger Dr, Jerome. Grave dedication will conclude at the Jerome Cemetery.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Lonnie's memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com.
