Imogene Oakes

March 6, 1926 — July 18, 2017

On July 18, 2017, God called Mom home to spend eternity with her Son, Mom and Dad, Brother and Sisters and other loved ones.

Mom was born March 6, 1926 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the first of eleven children to Edith and Edward Todd. The family moved to Oklahoma and back to Missouri several more times, adding the rest of the family, where they finally settled in Cushing, Oklahoma.

In 1945 at an Army dance, "Jean" met Louis Dillon, they married the same year and headed West to settle down in Twin Falls, and here they added five children to their family. They later divorced. Mom then married Jim Oakes, they were married 39 years until the time of his death.

Mom was a long time resident of Jerome and Twin Falls, working many different jobs and making new friends along the way. She was very active in the Foster Grandparent program for twenty four years, working at various schools and helping classroom teachers. She received several achievement awards from the program, having to retire at age 86 due to failing health.

Jean is survived by four of her children, Shirley and Jeff, Middleton, Idaho; Dale and Russ, Twin Falls, Idaho; Colleen and Layne, Hansen, Idaho; and Pat and Teresa, Buhl, Idaho; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her remaining siblings, Norm, Melvin, Wayne, Arzella, Helen, Dolly and Norma Jean.

Mom was preceded in death by her son, Michael; parents, Edith and Edward; brother, Bob; and sisters, Virginia and Marie; great granddaughter, Leah; and both spouses.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome. The family will host a potluck luncheon at Colleen & Laynne's  for family and friends following the memorial service. Please bring a favorite story about Mom to share, your favorite dish and a camp chair.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Jean's memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com .
