Herb was a man who built his own road in life, and it didn’t matter how large, rocky or impossible it seemed, or how many people told him he couldn’t do it, he chose his own path.
Born in Manzanola, Colorado to Matthew and Ella Willhite Allen, the youngest of 9, he was spoiled and loved by all those brothers and sisters. The Allen family moved to Filer Idaho where Herb attended school and loved to play football and basketball in the Hansen /Filer schools.
Herb was a successful businessman and found his niche working in the trucking industry in Butte, Montana, with Montana Express, before moving his small family to Anaheim, California. Herb drove truck before partnering and then bouthgt the truck brokerage, Penn Pacific Inc. His heart was always in Idaho and would not hesitate to put one of his children on a truck to visit family in Idaho.
He had the flexibility to move his brokerage business back to Idaho when he met and married Mary in 1986 Herb started to buy trucks in 1994 and ran them under the name of Farm Fresh Marketing until he retired at the age of 83.
He and Mary were able to spend a lot of time in Mexico where they met a lot of friends and enjoyed the sun, drinks, and fishing, not necessarily in that order.
Whatever road you choose, wherever the road leads, however that journey looks. His wish for his 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren would be that their road be filled with joy, love, forgiveness, health, success, and that you never forget that whatever road you choose you aren’t walking it alone.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jewel and Lester; sisters, Effie Miller, Lillian Castle, Gladys McFarland, Mattie Grigg, and Maxine Alloway; most recently, his best friend and wife, Mary Beatrice Allen; and daughter, Jackie Montgomery. He is survived by his sister, Millie Hall of Sandy Utah; daughters, Melinda (Bill) Bunn of Jerome and Lisa Belmonte of Templeton, CA; and sons, Chris (Carolyn) Allen of Jerome and Doug (Christine) McFall of Twin Falls.
Herb would want to be remembered while casting your fishing pole in your favorite fishing hole, or while sharing a drink with a good friend, of which he had many.
