JEROME • Hersel Elvin “Bud” Barnes, 87, of Jerome, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at the Wynwood Manor in Twin Falls
Bud was born May 12, 1927, in Wendell, Idaho, the son of Tom Peterman Barnes and Ethel Mary Melinda Brackett Barnes. He was the fourth of five children: brothers, Harriman “Hank”, Tommy “Bill” and Harold Barnes; and one sister, Omaline “Oma” Hall.
Bud was raised in Jerome and graduated from Jerome High School in 1945. He belonged to the boxing team and earned his Golden Gloves. Upon graduating from high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Jacquelynne Beckman, and then joined the United States Air Force. Bud and Jackie later divorced. He lived and farmed in the Jerome and Hagerman areas, later moving to Cottonwood, Calif., where he worked construction.
Bud and Jackie had seven children, Dennis (Diana) Barnes of Tucson, Ariz., Mick Barnes of Jerome, Kathy (Richard) Anthony of Carlin, Nev., Rick Barnes of Hagerman, Mitch (Diana) Barnes of Jerome, Tim (Carrie) Barnes of Jerome and Randy Barnes.
He is survived by six children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Hank and Bill; his son, Randy; and his grandson, Michael Barnes.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Farnsworth Mortuary Chapel, 1343 S. Lincoln in Jerome, with Pastor Gene Kissinger officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Jerome Cemetery.
