Florence “Evelyn” Brashears Phillips (affectionately known as “Granny Goose” by her family and friends) passed away peacefully at Grace Assisted Living Facility in the early morning hours of April 30, 2021.
Evelyn celebrated her 100th birthday on December 25, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Lillian Brashears; three siblings, Eloise, Nellie, and Johnny; and her beloved husband of 29 years, Ralph Woodring Phillips.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Dan) Suhr of Jerome, ID and Lynda Hyce of Olympia, WA; six grandchildren, Rick (Carolyn) Hyce of Wasilla, AK; Debbie Suhr (Ron Roemer) of Twin Falls, ID; Terri (John) Lewis of Portland, OR; Dan Suhr Jr. (Shelly Bunn) of Salem, OR; Denise Suhr (John Hutchcraft) of Stuttgart, Germany; and Ronni Hyce of Wasilla, AK. She was blessed with ten great grandchildren: Jessica Hyce of Lynnwood, WA; Cody (Hailey) Hyce of Wasilla, AK; Riley (Melissa) Hyce of Buckley, WA; Joey Hyce of Roseville, CA; Zachery Forrest of Wasilla, AK; Lani and Amy Roemer of Twin Falls, ID; Reno Hyce of Tempe, AZ; and Lucas and Lily Hyce of Wasilla, AK. Evelyn was also the proud great-great grandmother of Jackson, Piper, Holland, Travis, Teagan, and Aria. She is also survived by two beloved sisters-in law, Bonnie Phillips VanRyswyk Lund and Annabelle Phillips Joslyn of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn lived a long and eventful life filled with lots of love and laughter. She spent most of her childhood and young adult years in Arizona and moved to Idaho in 1958. Evelyn was a working woman before it became fashionable and owned and operated the B-Mary dress shop in Burley for several years. In recent years she has been an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Jerome (believed to be the oldest member). She was a frequent visitor to the Jerome Senior Center and enjoyed weekly card playing with the Jerome Friday Bridge Club.
Evelyn loved to travel and has made many trips around the country and the world. Her latest venture at age 98 was to spend Thanksgiving with five generations of family in Alaska. Family has always been the center of life for Evelyn. Whether spending time each week with the Suhrs and Roemers in Idaho or trekking off to Mexico, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Hawaii, or the beach in California, Granny Goose was always the most important person at family reunions and weddings.
Evelyn will be greatly missed by her family, but we are all grateful for the many years she made our lives so awesome, in the true sense of the word.
The family is very appreciative of the loving care shown by the staff at Grace’s Assisted Living and Auburn Crest Hospice in Twin Falls.
