Emma Giltner

March 9, 1929 — July 8, 2018

JEROME

Emma Louise Haman Giltner, 89, peacefully passed away, Sunday, July 8, 2018, at DeSano Place Lodge in Jerome, Idaho, surrounded by family.

Emma was born on March 9, 1929, in Gregory, South Dakota.  She was the youngest and only daughter of four children (Allen, Jerry, Orley and Emma) born to Fred and Laura Haman. When Emma was around 9 months old, the Haman family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho and later to Filer, Idaho where Emma was raised.

Emma graduated from Filer High School in 1947 and later that same year married the love of her life, Robert Giltner Sr.  From the time of their marriage to their passing, Robert and Emma built their lives around their business and more importantly family.  In 1959, Robert and Emma moved to Jerome and not only farmed and dairied, but also began their milk hauling business, Bob Giltner Contract Hauling.

Family was the center of Robert and Emma’s lives.  Sundays were known as “Coffee Sunday” and if you didn’t want to be the topic of conversation, you were sure not to miss it.  Sundays were centered around the dining table and extra chairs always had to be brought in so everyone had a place.  “Coffee Sunday” continued up to the time of Emma’s passing.

Emma loved to sew and made each grandchild a quilt for graduation and Care Bears for Christmas, for each granddaughter.  Throughout her life, she picked up various hobbies such as calligraphy and wood working crafts, which led to Robert filling up a shop with all kinds of saws, drills and planers, just so Emma could cut out and paint all kinds of wooden crafts.

Robert and Emma had three sons, Bob and Linda Giltner, Bill and Suzanne Giltner, Joe and Becky Giltner and one daughter, Anne and Mark Newbry.  Emma will forever be “Coffee Grandma” to three grandsons, seven granddaughters, ten great grandsons, ten great granddaughters and one great great grandson and a great great grandchild that is due in August.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Giltner Sr., her parents, Fred and Laura Haman, and her three brothers, Allen Haman, Jerry Haman and Orley Haman.

The Giltner Family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Irwin and Dr. Henderson as well as Encompass Hospice, Twin Falls and The DeSano Place Lodge, Jerome.  The family will be forever grateful for the care and compassion shown to Emma by her doctors and the staff of each but in particular Encompass Hospice Nurse Pam and Desano Place Lodge Nurse Sheena, thank you!

In lieu of flowers, the Giltner Family has requested that you each make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
