Elizabeth Alverna Drain, age 84, passed peacefully at her home in Jerome on July 10, 2018 of natural causes.
Betty was born in Glen Ullin, North Dakota on August 23, 1933 to Ben and Cecilia Wetzstein. The family moved to Buhl Idaho in the mid-forties. She married Lee Newberry and was blessed with three children, Ed (Jr.), Ceceile, and Terry. They later divorced. She married George Drain on June 5, 1959, gaining not only a husband but his two children, Scott and Colleen. They added Mark to their blended family and raised them on the family farm south of Jerome where they still make their home.
Betty occasionally worked outside the home at various jobs including waitressing, farm work, home health aide, and the Jerome Senior Center. Her primary job was taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidery, reading, and all types of puzzles. She collected angels, bells, and Campbell Soup memorabilia.
Betty is survived by her husband George, children Scott Drain (Jocelyn), Ed Newberry (Yolanda), Shonna Colleen Fraser (Scott), Theresa Newberry Bliss (Gene), and Mark Drain (Leisa); as well as 28 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren, her brother Bernie Wetzstein, brother Bill Wetzstein, (Shirley), and her sister Theresa Brown (Chet).
She was preceded in death by daughter Ceceile McBenge, grandson Michael Turner, and sisters Laurabelle, Ellen, Judy, and Marlene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jerome Public Library or Jerome Animal Shelter. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Visions Hospice. The loving care given to Mom in her last days was unrivaled.
A viewing will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm, Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 S Lincoln Ave, Jerome. A Memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, July 16, 2018 at Farnsworth Mortuary with burial concluding at Jerome Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather at North Park, Main Street Jerome to share time and memories with family and friends. Please bring a dish to share.
