Edwin Prescott, Sr.

Edwin “Ed” Leroy Prescott Sr. was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on January 4, 1944 the 3rd of 4 children to Edward and Esther (Jones) (Prescott) Lewis.

Edwin learned hard work ethics at an early age. When he was 8 years old, he pulled a little red wagon behind him to collect bottles for recycling. At 12 years of age he began weeding beans, and then when he was 14, Edwin had a job of driving a tractor hauling hay on a skid. When Edwin was 15 years of age, he was employed by Birdies Poultry Farm, where he worked in the processing line. In 1961, Edwin finished 11th grade and joined the United States Navy, where he received his GED.

While in the Navy, his first tour of duty took him to Mexico, the Philippines, Hawaii, China and Japan. Upon returning from Japan he attended school in San Diego, CA where he became a Class A Metalsmith. He would repair and fabricate Nuclear Subs. The Navy then took him to the East coast where he was on a nuclear sub tender in Norfolk, VA. From Norfolk, he went to Cuba, Puerto Rico and Jamaica. When he returned to the states, his next duty station was in Charleston, SC.  While there, he was invited to the home of one of his shipmates for dinner, where he saw a picture of a young lady by the name of Claudia, who caught his eye. This young lady was friends with his shipmate's wife. Being intrigued, he asked for her address and began writing her as pen pals for approximately 9 months. During these 9 months they continued to write back and forth, as Edwin had gone to Rota, Spain for his next duty station. After returning to the states from Spain and Portugal, he returned to Charleston, SC where he was honorably discharged from the United States Navy.

Edwin purchased a car and drove to Ohio in December of 1964, to meet Claudia for the first time. Edwin ended up staying for two weeks in Ohio getting to know Claudia, before having to return to Idaho to check in with the Naval Reserves. Before leaving Ohio, Edwin proposed to Claudia. As soon as he returned to Idaho, he got a job as a welder and Claudia came out to Idaho in March to meet his family. Claudia fell in love with Idaho and they chose that Idaho would be their home. Five days later, Edwin and Claudia took a train back to Ohio to start planning their wedding.
Edwin began to work at Lintern Corporation in Mentor, OH where he was a welder and Claudia got a job to save up for their wedding. Edwin and Claudia were married on July 24, 1965 in Mentor, Ohio at Faith Lutheran Church. Two days later they drove to Idaho to make it their home. Edwin began working as a welder, he worked in production welding from 1965 to 1974 at K&T Steel, where he later became Night Foreman. In 1974 Edwin began working at the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) as a Certified Welding Instructor. He taught welding in the evening to High School Students who were in the JTPA program. This teaching position turned into a full-time career at CSI, where Edwin became an Associate Professor until 1988, when he was laid off due to state funding cutbacks in Vocational Education.

From 1988 to 1991 Edwin was employed at Charmac Trailers in Twin Falls, ID where he made Aluminum Elite Gooseneck Horse Trailers. From 1991 to 1992, he worked at Kimberly Welding for a short time. In 1992 Edwin went back to work at K&T Steel in Twin Falls, ID as a Journeyman Layout Welder, and was laid off in 1993 due to lack of work. In 1993 due to health issues from a pulmonary embolism, Edwin changed his profession and began working at Oxarc Welding Supply in Twin Falls as the Store Manager/Sales Representative. He continued to work at Oxarc until they closed their doors in 1999. In1999 Edwin began working at Interwest Medical as the Regional Repair Manager, which was later sold to Praxair where he continued to work until he retired in 2006.

Edwin's faith was very strong, and in his heart, he called Lighthouse Christian Church in Twin Falls, his church. When he was ill, he greatly appreciated Pastor Greg's compassion and coming out to the house to pray over him while he was surrounded by his family.  Edwin belongs to Post #0085 of the American Legion, Moose Lodge International #612 and NRA of America. Edwin enjoyed going hunting, fishing, camping and trying to come up with new inventions. He wanted to leave a legacy to all of his family, to always respect America, Our Flag and Our Constitution of the United States. Edwin always wanted his family to work hard and always put their best foot forward no matter what, each and every day to make a difference.  Edwin was a great friend, a loving husband, a wonderful father and Papa. He will be forever missed.

Edwin was preceded in death by both of his parents; sisters, Judy Moscrip and Janice (Bud) Musser; baby brother, Edward Harold Prescott; and infant daughter, Ranae Marie Prescott. Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Claudia Prescott, of 54 years; brother, Terry (Cynthia) Prescott; sister, Maria (Dennis) Reynolds; sons, Tadd Prescott and Kurt (Katharyn) Prescott; daughter, Jackie (Stacey) Howe; grandchildren: Saith Howe, Justin (Brooke) Prescott, Destinee (Robert) Long, Tylor (LeAndrea) Prescott, Kylar Prescott and Ryleigh Prescott; great grandchildren: Aleeah Prescott, Taven Howe, Drake Prescott, Tucker Howe, and Elaina Long; son by choice, Jamie Corlett; as well as many family members whom he loved with all his heart.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls, Idaho. A reception and Celebration of Edwin’s life will follow at the Lighthouse Christian Church, Twin Falls.
