Edith “Evelyn” VanAusdeln Fiala of Jerome, Idaho, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on June 7, 2023, 10 days before she would have turned 94.
Evenly was born June 17, 1929, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to John Luke VanAusdeln and Edith Evelyn Johnson. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1947 where she was the class treasurer in her senior year. The school was located where the Twin Falls Courthouse now stands.
Evelyn worked part-time as a bookkeeper and secretary at Twin Falls Electric Company before graduation and full-time afterward. She was employed there for two and a half years.
Evelyn married Roger William Fiala on December 13, 1949. They made their home on the family farm northeast of Jerome and for Evelyn, becoming a farm wife was a big adjustment. She said her greatest accomplishment was being a wife and mother, and she felt the farm was a fantastic place to raise children.
Evelyn was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. She and Roger worked in the Boise Temple for two years.
Evelyn is remembered by her family for the amazing dinners she prepared for nearly every holiday and birthday. Her macaroni and cheese was famous and everyone wanted her recipe. No one has yet to duplicate it like hers!
Evelyn is survived by her three children, David (Marilyn) Fiala of Twin Falls, Rosann Fiala of Filer, and Edie Waite of Jerome; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger, who passed away April 25, 2004. She was also preceded by her parents; her sister Inga; daughter, Kathleen; grandsons, Loren and Travis; and son-in-law Rodney.
Her legacy of service, giving, and love will be with us always. We love you, mom, and we will carry an empty place in our hearts.
Graveside services, under the direction of Farnsworth Mortuary & Crematory, will be held at a later date.
Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Evelyn’s memorial webpage at www.farnsworthmortuary.com.
