Donald Allen “D.A.” Strunk, 68, of Jerome, Idaho passed away Friday, February 28, 2025. DA was born on January 29, 1957 in Jerome, Idaho to Laman O. Strunk and Bettie (Mason) Strunk, where he grew up playing and riding bikes around town with friends, his two brothers, and little sister, Donna. Baseball and football became the sports he enjoyed, ultimately earning a trip to Boise in an airplane with the mayor for a Kick, Punt, Return competition.
DA met, and soon married, Carla Meyer in Jerome on February 7, 1976. Shortly after, they welcomed their first of three children: their daughter Jami, followed by two sons, Benjamin and Kerry. DA had chosen the name Kerry from a coworker he had whose name he liked. Which dad later joked that he should have named him Standley instead, because Kerry was the one child that always wanted to be carried all the time. DA and Carla raised those three children to become successful and productive members of society, reflecting their hard work dedicated to core values and family. And a few weeks ago, they enjoyed celebrating their 49th anniversary.
DA began work laying concrete with Carla's dad, LeRoy Meyer. From there, he eventually started his own business as a siding applicator hanging siding and installing roofs. He could do endless tasks with his hands, from concrete, construction and remodels to building fences and decks and so much more, all of which he did in the last few months of his life. He enjoyed doing this work all over the Magic Valley. And for those who knew him, you knew that he did not cut corners; his work was done to standard and to perfection... and then beyond. He would even, for example, clean and wipe down the siding once the entire job was done so that the best presentation possible was given to the homeowners. DA was a man with a very generous heart, giving various jobs to many, who in a pinch, just needed something to get by.
DA loved snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and most recently making and fixing up things non-stop for his wife and grandkids. Highlights with his friends were the yearly snowmobiling trips to the Grangeville area cabin and time on the river in Orofino and Riggins. Sturgeon fishing was his favorite. His love for old vehicles was apparent by the number of them he had and how, over his entire lifetime, he always had a project, or ten, going.
DA was a simple and straight-forward, loving man, with a bigger heart than most.
There will be a very informal open-house style get-together at the Snake River Elks in Jerome on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 6-8pm. Anyone is welcome to bring a favorite finger food or side dish, especially if there is something you know DA loved, or if there is a story behind it. All memories are welcome and appreciated.
