With profound sadness, we share the passing of Domingos S. Gomes, who departed this life in the early hours of Monday, February 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.
Domingos was born on April 17, 1947, in Lajes, Azores, Portugal, and grew up in the village of São Brás. The youngest of five children with 3 brothers & 1 sister, he was raised with strong family values and a deep appreciation for hard work.
On July 11, 1971, Domingos married the love of his life, Maria Amelia Avila De Sousa. Together, they built a beautiful life, first in Ontario, California, before settling in Idaho in 1991. Their love and devotion to one another created a strong foundation for their family.
Domingos is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maria; his son, Rui Gomes (wife Trish); his daughter, Nancy Gomes; and his five adored grandchildren,Jayden, Alexander, Nola, Solamè, and Niko. He is also survived by two of his brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and his sister.
A hardworking and determined man, Domingos spent many years working on a dairy in California before pursuing his dream of business ownership. After a brief venture in the dairy industry, he found success in real estate, owning multiple rental properties and providing homes for many. He took great pride in his work and the legacy he built for his family.
A passionate sports fan, Domingos’ love for soccer—particularly for his cherished Portuguese club, S.L. Benfica—was unmatched. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. As a young boy in the Azores, he worked as a caddy, sparking a lifelong love for golf. In later years, he also found joy in playing cards with friends, sharing laughter and camaraderie.
Above all, Domingos was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and Maria raised their children with a deep connection to their Portuguese heritage, frequently returning to Portugal to stay rooted in their traditions. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who brought light and happiness to his life.
Even in his final battle, Domingos displayed immense strength, resilience, and grace. He leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and unwavering dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
