Daniel Black

Daniel J. Black, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully November 23, 2017 at age 84. Daniel was born November 8, 1933 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Arthur Myron Black and Hazel Emma Hanseen. He was the youngest of nine children. Dan grew up in Eden, Idaho and graduated from Eden High School in 1951. Dan attended BYU and Boise Jr. College. He married Leona Mae Davis in Reno, Nevada in 1952. In 1958 Dan and Leona were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with eight children, Dan Jr., Steve, Cheri, Bret, Brad, Craig, Tracy and Stacy. Dan and Leona are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Dan farmed, owned and operated American Oil in Paul, and bought and sold commodities for various warehouses in and around the Magic Valley. After retiring, Dan needed more to do and began working at Walmart in the paint department. Dan loved to hunt, fish, ride horseback and play golf. Dan enjoyed coaching his son’s and son’s-in-law softball teams.

He is survived by Leona, his wife of 65 years; his eight children, Dan Jr. (Linda), Steve (Kathy), Cheri (Kenny) Rogers, Bret (Cori), Brad (Rochelle), Craig (Mindy), Tracy, and Stacy (Jeff) Burnham; 30 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; brother, Karl; and sister, Betty Lou.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jenaca Black; his parents, three brothers, Ferrel, LaMar, and Donald; two sisters, Enid and Lorena; and an infant brother, Golden Eugene.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Ezzy, Amanda, and the rest of the girls at Ashley Manor, also all the wonderful people that have given words of comfort and service.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Jerome Stake Center, 26 North 100 East Jerome Idaho, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Hazelton Cemetery.
