Billy Joe Johnson passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord July 24, 2021 at his home in Jerome, Idaho, with his family by his side praying that the Lord would take him quickly to relieve his suffering. The Lord was so gracious, the last words Bill spoke were, “Jesus, I’m ready.” and shortly thereafter he passed. He was born October 13, 1933 in Osage, Arkansas, the youngest of seven children born to John and Orpha Johnson. Bill was reared and educated in Arkansas before moving to Jerome with his parents in 1953. He married Darlene Kimbrough in 1955.
Bill worked for various construction companies before starting Johnson Construction in 1974. He and his son, Michael, managed the Jerome County Landfill for many years, in addition to working in the community doing excavation work until he retired in 2012. He purchased ten acres of sagebrush, turning it into a small farm raising emus and cattle until his health started failing.
He was a man of many talents, doing most of his own mechanic work on the equipment and he remodeled and built the family home doing most of the electrical and plumbing work. He passed many of these work ethics and abilities on to his children and grandchildren.
Bill was a grill master for family birthdays and celebrations. He will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, Michael (Deborah) Johnson of Boise; daughter, Terry (David) Callen of Meridian; four grandchildren, Corrie Amaro and Joshua Callen and Justin and Austin Johnson; five great grandchildren, Hailey and Beckem Amaro, and Keegan, Stella, and Kaien Callen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dess and Carlon Johnson; and four sisters, Cleo Bartlett, Elsie Underdown, Ardena Fultz, and Ruby Black.
