Betty Butler

May 24, 1924 — September 21, 2015

Betty Lorene Bushnell Butler, 91, of Ogden, Utah, passed away at her home on Monday September 21, 2015. She was cared for in her home until her death, from Alzheimer's, by her youngest daughter, Ann Butler. Betty was born May 24, 1924, in Hailey, Idaho, the daughter of Douglas R. Bushnell and Ada Belle Justus Bushnell. She graduated from Hailey High School and attended three years of college in Boise, before joining the Navy Waves during WWII. She completed basic training at Hunter Girls College in New York City and was then stationed in Bethesda, Maryland and Astoria, Oregon. Following an Honorable Discharge, she returned home and was trained as a Dental Assistant. She worked in Hailey and Spokane, and in 1951, she met James Butler. They were married that October and settled into a Ranger Station near Jarbidge, Nevada. Their married life was spent moving, where the Forest Service dictated, from Nevada to Idaho and on to Utah. Along the way, they were joined by four children; Susan Elaine, Cathleen Louise, Paul Joseph and Ann M.

While living in Price, Utah, Betty became involved in the Girl Scouts program and was not only a leader, but also camp director for Summer day camps and the troop organizer for the county. She counted her years in Price among the happiest and friends in Price among the best. She and Jim enjoyed belonging to the Elks Lodge. The family grew up camping, fishing, hunting and enjoying the out-of-doors. She loved baking for her family and no one could bake a better cinnamon roll or lemon meringue pie. Their last move took them back to Ogden, Utah, where she and Jim enjoyed their retirement traveling in their little trailer from Alaska to Vermont, visiting family and friends.

Jim passed away in 2010. Betty is survived by her four children, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her sister Edith "Bebe" Robertson and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be conducted at 1:00 PM , Monday September 28, 2015 , at the Hailey Cemetery, 541 Fox Acre Road, Hailey, Idaho.

A "Special Thank You" to Aunt Bebe, Jimmie, Sharon, Hallie, David, Susan and LD for the unconditional trust, love and support to get through this journey with Mom.
