Beatrice Brisbane

April 15, 1917 — August 17, 2015

Dietrich- Beatrice Sherman Brisbane, 98 of Dietrich, Idaho passed away peacefully at her home August 17, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones.  Bea was born April 15, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Max and Minnie Goldberg Sherman.  She grew up with 4 brothers Victor, Marvin, Joe and Harry and 2 sisters Ann and Mary.  She had a happy fun childhood living in Philadelphia, San Jose and the Presidio areas of California and Hawaii.  She met her sweetheart Bruce in Los Angeles walking by the garage where he worked.  They later eloped to Yuma, Arizona where they were married on November 12, 1938.  Bea and Bruce were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1977 and were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple 1978.  They spent 7 years in Hawaii, a place they loved, while Bruce worked for the Navy.  Bruce was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack. Bea spent 2 days worrying until she heard from him to know that he had survived.  Their first child Leilani Judith, was born during their time in the Islands on Christmas Day.   They later returned and settled in Southern California where Donna Michele was born in Los Angeles.  Bea and Bruce owned and operated Gumps Luggage in Pasadena.  Bea always liked to tell of the many famous movie stars who patroned Gumps.  She was active in the NLDA and did much of the purchasing for the Luggage Association.  Bea’s daughter Lani and Son-In-Law Don Ritter eventually took over the business.

Bruce passed away in 1980 at which time Bea divided her time between her 2 daughters in California and Idaho. The last several years of her life she resided full time in Idaho and had lived with her daughter Donna for the last 2 years.

Her grandkids came to love their time with Grandma Bea.  She spent much of her time baking and making numerous afghans for her family and friends. Bea prided herself in her health and had a daily routine of walking and exercising.  This contributed to her long life.  Her family grew to include 11 Grandchildren, 43 Great-Grandchildren and 21 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Bea was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bruce on July 28, 1980.   She was also preceded by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and a son-in-law.  She will be missed by her brother Harry (Claire) Sherman of Walnut Creek, CA, daughter Lani Ritter of Quincy, CA, daughter Donna (John) Power of Dietrich, Id; her 11 grandchildren Sue (J.R.) Gregory, Debbe (Steve) McMaster, Lynda (Jack) Biddix, Don Ritter Jr., Kris (Devan) Hubert, Brian (Julie) Power, Nancy (Aaron) Allen, Amy (Kevin) Kerner, Frank (Dolly) Power, Levi (Sherri) Power, and Beth Power; and all of her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM., Saturday August 22, 2015,  at the Dietrich, ID LDS Church, 181 South 650 East, Dietrich, Idaho.  A viewing will be held prior to the service at 12:30 PM. Beatrice will be buried in Whittier, California at the Rose Hills Cemetery on August 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM, next to her eternal companion.
