Adolph Hood

April 4, 1940 — July 7, 2016

Jerome- Adolph Lee Hood, known as “Pop” and “California Kool-aid” born April 4, 1940, took his final mule ride into the sunset on July 7, 2016, in Shoshone, Idaho. The son of Elva Ada and Carl Adolph Hood was born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Bakersfield, California, where he attended grade school and attended high school in Arvin. Adolph’s love of hunting, fishing, trail riding, and the western lifestyle brought him to Jerome, Idaho, where he resided on a small acreage north of town for 25 years with his loving wife of 45 years, Virginia “Gay” Hood. Adolph had a true love for all animals. Especially, his appaloosa mule “Bubba” that he raised and trained himself; and his heelers, hounds, and Chihuahuas. He was a truck driver for most of his working life, where he excelled and was named Idaho Truck Driver of the Year before he retired. Adolph is remembered by his family of being the master of many talents, including playing “and winning” every game of dominos, catching the most fish each trip, whittling anything from a tree branch, yodeling, and playing the harmonica. Adolph spent every moment that he was able, fishing and hunting with his wife, family, and friends. He instilled the value of hard work and dedication to all those that knew him and he will always be remembered as a true cowboy with a kind spirit. He was a member of the Backcountry Horseman of Idaho and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Adolph is survived by his wife, Gay Hood; children, Terry (Glynn) Norris, Tina Lowder, and Michelle Hernandez; siblings, Janice (JR) Huckaby, Donnie Hood, and Gary (Joann) Hood; sister-in-law, Carol Hood; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wayne Hood; lifetime best friend, Larry “Roundy” Miller; and son-in-law, Lonnie Lowder. A visitation will be held Monday evening, July 18, 2016 , at Farnsworth Mortuary, 1343 South Lincoln, Jerome, where family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. , Tuesday July 19, 2016 , also at Farnsworth Mortuary. Concluding visitation will be held Wednesday July 21, 2016 , at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, California, from 4-8 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. , Thursday July 21, 2016 , also at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A special thanks is given to Lincoln County Care Center and their staff for providing loving care to Adolph in his final years. “Talk low, talk slow and don’t talk too much.” – John Wayne. We love you and you will be in our hearts always!
